The Lost Photographs of Captain Scott
Dr. David Wilson
With over ten years experience working on Expedition cruise ships, Dr. David Wilson is in increasing demand both as an ornithological field guide and as an historian. He boasts numerous explorers and ornithologists on his family tree, which add a uniquely personal flavour to many of his talks. Not least amongst these was his Great Uncle, Dr. Edward Wilson, who was on both of Scott’s Antarctic Expeditions and famously died with him on the return from the South Pole in 1912.
With his wide range of philosophical, artistic and biological interests, time spent talking with Dr. Wilson is not likely to be dull. He is the author of numerous books, papers and even a CD of historic Antarctic expedition songs and poems.
Talking about his latest book, ‘The Lost Photographs of Captain Scott’, David will present a story of long-lost photographs. That they were ever lost seems astonishing, as these are the photographs taken personally by Captain Scott during his last British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913) aboard Terra Nova. They provide a unique insight into his last expedition and its works, as seen through his own eyes. This is the most significant new material to emerge on Captain Scott in many years, giving a new perspective on one of the great epics of human exploration history.
