From Penguins to Polar Bears – Adventure in Polar Regions

Susan Currie

Susan was born and brought up in North-East England but has lived for the last 26 years in North-East Scotland. After obtaining a geology degree from Exeter University and a PhD from Cambridge University she worked in the UK oil industry for over 20 years. She is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, a Chartered Geologist, and a member of the Petroleum Exploration Society of Great Britain.

In 2002 Susan was given the chance to work as a geologist and member of the Expedition Team on an expedition cruise ship, taking adventurous guests to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia, and the Antarctic Peninsula region. Since then she has spent a further four summer seasons working on a variety of ships in Antarctica, using small inflatable craft to view wildlife at close quarters.

On the other side of the world two summers spent expedition cruising along the coasts of Alaska offered sightings of Brown and Black bears and chances to visit remote fjords and glaciers.  Ice Breaking Expeditions to the North Pole have offered opportunities to see the mighty Polar Bear.

The Polar Regions, both north and south, offer unparalleled opportunities to experience wilderness of great beauty and to see highly charismatic animals, like penguins and polar bears, in their own habitat.
